Facials in Raleigh, and how to pick the right one.

Seventeen facials, with the prices written on this page in plain text. Treatments start at $70 for a full hour, and a 15 minute consultation costs $25 that comes straight off your treatment.

3001 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh. Open until 8pm on weeknights.

The short version

Sixteen names on a menu is the real problem.

Nobody arrives knowing the difference between a Cleansing Facial and a Deep Pore Cleanse. Most spa sites make you call to find out, and then quote a price at the end of the call.

Every facial and every price sits further down this page, followed by a short line on who each one suits. Read the two or three that sound like your skin and book that one.

If you genuinely do not know what your skin needs, the honest first step is the 15 minute consultation at $25. An esthetician looks at your skin and tells you. That $25 is then applied to the cost of the service you book.

Picking one

What each facial is for, in one or two lines.

Find the description that matches what your skin is doing right now. Get it wrong and your esthetician can adjust once she has looked at you.

Photo Glow Facial, 60 minutes, $70

The lowest price on the list and a sensible first booking. Pick it when your skin looks tired and dull rather than when you have one specific problem to fix.

Back Rejuvenating Facial, 60 minutes, $77

A facial for your back instead of your face. People book it for breakouts across the shoulders, and for skin you cannot properly reach yourself.

Gentleman's Facial, 60 minutes, $77

Built around skin that gets shaved most days of the week. Book it for razor bumps, ingrown hairs along the jaw and roughness at the neckline.

Cleansing Facial, 60 minutes, $80

The plain, standard facial. Cleanse, exfoliation, extraction where it is needed, mask. Book it when you simply want your skin properly cleaned by someone who does it daily.

Deep Pore Cleanse Facial, 60 minutes, $95

The same hour with far more time spent on extraction. This is the one for blackheads across the nose and chin, and pores that always look full.

Anti-aging Facial, 60 minutes, $110

Aimed at fine lines, loose texture and skin that has lost some firmness. Treat it as maintenance you repeat, not as a single visit that changes your face.

Soothing C3 Facial, 60 minutes, $95

For skin that reacts to things. Redness, stinging, tightness after a product went wrong. Book this rather than anything built around strong exfoliation.

Mild Acne Facial, 60 minutes, $99

For breakouts that come and go. If you are breaking out constantly and it has lasted months, the 90 minute Acne/Teen Facial is the better use of your money.

Glow with Microderm, 60 minutes, $100

Includes microdermabrasion, a mechanical exfoliation that takes off the dull surface layer. Your skin can look pink for an hour or two afterwards, which settles the same day.

C3 Ultra Facelift and Necklift, 30 minutes, $85

The shortest treatment on the list, focused on firmness through the lower face and neck. It fits in a lunch break, which is why people book it before an event.

Ageless Radiance Facial, 75 minutes, $165

A longer anti-aging session with more steps than the 60 minute version. Worth the extra 15 minutes when you want the result to hold for a few days.

Acne/Teen Facial, 90 minutes, $135

Ninety minutes because active acne needs time on the table. Expect thorough extraction and a straight conversation about what to change in your routine at home.

C3 Spectrum-Era Facial, 90 minutes, $195

The most involved facial on the list, built for several concerns in one appointment. Ask the front desk exactly what it includes before booking, because the answer depends on your skin.

SensiGlow Facial, 75 minutes, $165

For sensitive skin that still wants brightness, without the exfoliation that usually causes the reaction.

MicroNeedling with Numbing Agent, 60 minutes, $125

Fine needles make controlled micro-injuries so your skin rebuilds collagen as it heals. Numbing cream goes on first. Expect redness like mild sunburn for a day or two.

VI Peel, 30 minutes, $385, or 60 minutes with a facial, $440

A medical-grade chemical peel with real downtime. There is a full section on it further down this page, because you should know what you are agreeing to.

What happens

Your first facial, start to finish.

Arrive 10 minutes before your start time. Those 10 minutes cover paperwork, getting changed and a short consultation, so your booked hour stays a full hour of treatment.

Your esthetician looks at your skin under a light and asks what it has been doing lately. Tell her about retinoids, prescription acne medication, recent sun, waxing, cold sores and any allergy.

You lie on a warmed table with your hair wrapped back. You keep your clothes on from the shoulders down, under a sheet, for anything on the face.

The hour usually runs cleanse, exfoliation, steam, extraction, massage, mask and finishing products. Extraction is the part people feel most, and it can sting around the nose.

Say something the moment anything is uncomfortable. Pressure, heat, a product that tingles harder than you expected: all of it can be changed while you are lying there.

You may leave a little pink. That fades within a few hours for most people, and your esthetician will tell you if she expects otherwise before you get up.

The honest version

A VI Peel is a medical peel, and your face will peel.

This is the treatment people book without reading, so here is the straight account. A VI Peel is a chemical solution applied to your skin in layers, and it costs $385 for the 30 minute appointment.

The application itself is quick. You feel warmth and tingling for a few minutes, then it settles. You go home with the solution still on your face and a small kit of aftercare products.

Peeling starts around day three. Your face sheets and flakes visibly for roughly three to five days, and you cannot hide it with makeup. Plan it around your calendar rather than the other way around.

Do not pick or pull the peeling skin. Pulling a sheet that is not ready can leave a mark that lasts far longer than the peel does.

Stay out of direct sun and wear sunscreen every day through the peel and for weeks afterwards. New skin burns quickly, and a burn undoes the result you paid for.

The $440 version pairs the peel with a 60 minute facial in the same appointment. It is the better booking if you want your skin prepped and cleaned before the solution goes on.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on isotretinoin, or you have had a cold sore outbreak recently, say so before you book. A VI Peel is not right for everyone, and it is better to find that out on the phone.

Afterwards

The week after a facial decides how good it looks.

Bring the products you use at home to your next appointment, or photograph the labels. Half of what an esthetician can do for your skin happens in your bathroom, not on the table.

Before you book

The questions people ask at the front desk.

How much is a facial in Raleigh?

At C3 Wellness Spa facials start at $70 for the 60 minute Photo Glow Facial. Most 60 minute facials run $80 to $110, the 75 minute Ageless Radiance Facial is $110, and the 90 minute Acne/Teen and C3 Spectrum-Era facials are $135. A VI Peel is $385 on its own or $440 with a facial. None of these are introductory rates.

How long does a facial last?

Most facials at C3 Wellness Spa in Raleigh run 60 minutes. The C3 Ultra Facelift and Necklift is 30 minutes, the Ageless Radiance and SensiGlow facials are 75 minutes, and the Acne/Teen and C3 Spectrum-Era facials are 90 minutes. Arrive 10 minutes early so paperwork and consultation do not eat into your treatment time.

Which facial should I get?

Pick by what your skin is doing. Blackheads and full pores point to the Deep Pore Cleanse Facial, reactive or red skin to the Soothing C3 Facial, persistent breakouts to the 90 minute Acne/Teen Facial, and fine lines to the Anti-aging Facial. If you are not sure, book the 15 minute consultation at C3 Wellness Spa for $25, which is then applied to the cost of your treatment.

Does a VI Peel hurt?

The application is not painful. You feel warmth and a tingling sting for the first few minutes of each layer, which settles quickly. The harder part is the days afterwards, when your skin feels tight and dry before it peels. C3 Wellness Spa in Raleigh charges $385 for the 30 minute VI Peel and $440 with a facial.

How long does a VI Peel take to peel?

Peeling usually begins around the third day and lasts three to five days, and it is clearly visible. Makeup will not cover it. Book it at least a week before any event, keep out of direct sun, wear sunscreen daily and do not pull at skin that is still attached.

What happens during a facial?

Your esthetician at C3 Wellness Spa looks at your skin, then works through cleansing, exfoliation, steam, extraction, massage, a mask and finishing products. You stay clothed under a sheet with your hair wrapped back. Extraction is the part most people feel, particularly around the nose, and the pressure can be eased if you say so.

How often should you get a facial?

Every four to six weeks suits most skin, because that is roughly how long a skin cell cycle takes. Active acne is often treated more closely together at first, then spaced out. C3 Wellness Spa in Raleigh also runs memberships if you plan to come in regularly.

Can a teenager get a facial for acne?

Yes. The Acne/Teen Facial at C3 Wellness Spa is 90 minutes for $135 and is built for active breakouts, with extended extraction and advice on a home routine. Mention any prescription acne medication when you book, because some medications change what can safely be used on the skin.

Can I wear makeup after a facial?

Leave it off for the rest of the day if you can. Freshly extracted skin is open and makeup on top of it is how a small breakout starts. Skip the gym, sauna and hot tub that evening too, and wear sunscreen the next morning.

Does a VI peel hurt?

The application is not painful. There is warmth and a tingling sting for the first few minutes of each layer, which settles quickly. The harder part is the following days, when skin feels tight and dry before it peels. C3 Wellness Spa in Raleigh charges $385 for the 30 minute VI Peel and $440 with a facial.
