The short version
A semi permanent dye is brushed onto your brow hairs or your lash hairs, left for a few minutes, then wiped away. The whole booking runs 10 to 20 minutes.
What you gain is color and definition. What you do not gain is extra hair, curl, thickness or a new shape, which is where most of the confusion sits.
A patch test comes first, at least 24 hours ahead of the dye. That step is not optional, and the reason why is further down the page.

Telling them apart
People book a tint expecting a lift, or a lift expecting extensions. Sorting them out first is the most useful thing this page can do for you.
Dye applied to hair you already have. It changes color and nothing else, holds for a few weeks, costs $25 per area here, and washes out gradually rather than growing out.
A perm for your lashes. A solution resets the lash at the root so it curls upward, which opens the eye and makes the same lashes read as longer. It holds six to eight weeks and leaves the color untouched, which is why a lift and a tint are often paired.
Individual synthetic fibres bonded to your own lashes, one at a time. They add real length and density, take one to two hours to apply, and want infills every two to three weeks. Dye cannot be put through them.
A tattoo. Pigment is placed into the skin with a fine blade to draw hair strokes where brow hair is missing, and it holds a year or more before a touch up. It is not something C3 offers at the moment, so if that is closer to what you want you will need a permanent makeup artist elsewhere.
A chemical straightening that resets the direction brow hairs grow in, so they brush upward and stay put for around six weeks. It changes the shape of a brow rather than its color.
Tinting is the cheapest of the five and the least committal, since it fades on its own. Ask the front desk what else is currently on the treatment menu if a lift or lamination is what you had in mind.
The rule with no exceptions
Tint contains dye chemicals that a small number of people react to. The reaction can arrive the very first time, or after years of the same product causing no trouble at all.
A dot of the mixed dye goes behind your ear or inside your elbow, at least 24 hours before the appointment. It takes two minutes and costs you nothing.
Redness, itching, heat or swelling at that spot means the dye does not go anywhere near your face. Clear skin means you are fine to book.
A reaction around the eyes is a different order of problem from one on your arm. Swelling there can close an eye and take days to settle, which is why nobody sensible treats the test as a formality.
Repeat it if a long stretch has passed, if you have reacted to hair dye or a black henna tattoo since, or if you are pregnant. Sensitivity is not fixed for life.
What happens
You lie back with your eyes closed for the entire service. Shaped pads go under your lower lashes to keep dye off the skin, and a barrier cream rings the eye.
The dye is combed through your upper and lower lashes with a fine brush, then left to develop for five to ten minutes. Keeping your eyes shut the whole time is the only thing asked of you.
It comes off with damp pads. There is no sting when your eyes stay closed, and a little watering afterwards is normal.
Your brows get cleaned first so no oil or makeup blocks the color. If you are having them waxed in the same visit, the wax happens before the dye, never after.
Color goes on with a small brush and is worked into the sparse ends where hair has thinned. It sits for three to five minutes and is wiped off in one pass.
Your skin picks up a little of the color as well. That shadow fades over a day or two, so brows look their strongest the afternoon you walk out.
Go one to two shades darker than your hair if you are fair, and stay softer than jet black if your hair is already dark. Black on pale skin reads as drawn on.
Lash tints are simpler. Black or blue black suits most people, and brown is the kinder option for very fair lashes and light brows.
Say what you are aiming for before the dye is mixed. Color can be built up in a second pass, but it cannot be pulled back once it is sitting on the hair.
The other option
Standard tint colors hair and leaves only a faint shadow behind. Henna binds to the top layer of skin too, so the bare gaps between hairs take color and the brow reads fuller.
That makes it the better pick for over plucked ends, thin tails and small bald patches left by an old scar. It draws a shape rather than deepening one.
It sits on the brow considerably longer than tint does, and the booking runs 20 minutes. Oil free skin grips the stain better, so turn up with nothing on your brows.
The stain on skin lasts roughly one to two weeks, and the color on the hair holds four to six. It fades evenly rather than breaking up in patches.

Making it last
A brow tint looks strong for two to three weeks and fades out across four to six. A lash tint generally gives you four to five weeks.
Two things end it. Dye coats the hair shaft rather than soaking inside it, so washing lifts a little each time. Brow and lash hairs also shed on a roughly six week cycle, taking your tinted hairs with them.
Fine pale hair takes color less strongly than coarse dark hair and lets go of it sooner. Oily skin shortens a brow tint noticeably.

Leave the eye area alone for the first 24 hours. No mascara, no eyeliner, no cleanser or moisturizer on the brows, and no swimming, sauna or steam. After that day you can go back to normal, though an oil based remover will strip the color faster than a cream or micellar one.
